Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden will join Xbox Game Pass service on January 19 this year. With almost all versions of Persona 3 and Persona 4 having been marooned to obsolete consoles for upward of ten years, the decision by Atlus to bring them over to Xbox Game Pass - and modern consoles - may be an unexpected one, but it is certainly a move welcomed by fans of the famous franchise.

These original versions have never been ported verbatim to other consoles, with developer Atlus instead opting to develop enhanced versions of these games for portable PlayStation consoles - and in the case of Persona 4, PC - years later, thus releasing the Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden we know today. This is to say nothing of the original Persona 3 and Persona 4 (notice the lack of the 'Portable' and 'Golden' subtitles), both of which were released exclusively for the PlayStation 2 in the 2000s. Likewise, Persona 4 Golden, first released for the PlayStation Vita in 2012, remained exclusive to that system for eight years before being ported to PC via Steam in 2020. Originally released for the PlayStation Portable in 2009, Persona 3 Portable was later added to the PlayStation Vita via the PSN, and to date, this is the only version of the game that is commercially available. Up until now, both Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden have been notoriously inaccessible to players of modern systems. Much like the Game Pass version of Persona 5 Royal, both Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden will feature console, PC, and cloud support upon being added to the service.
This follows the release of last year's multi-platform port of Persona 5 Royal, which also landed on Xbox Game Pass on day one. Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden are set to make their Game Pass debut on January 19, the same day as their multi-platform launch. The announcement that both games would be made available on Xbox Game Pass and ported to modern consoles was the cherry on top at last year's Xbox Showcase hosted by Microsoft.
